FEDERATION GROUP INSURANCE
23 October 2009
Dear Colleagues,
Please find attached the new Group Insurance Travel Policy (NB Not reproduced on the website) along with a short summary concerning changes and areas to be noted. I have asked the JBB Chairman to ensure the Policy is placed on our intranet site. By way of update I am awaiting the new policy to be printed from Heath Lamberts concerning the remainder of the Group Insurance Policy but I can report there will be no increase in premiums paid by members to the scheme, which was highly likely if we had chosen to remain with the current provider, but there will be increased benefits such as; · Life Insurance for members – increased from £100,000 to £120,000 · Spouse – from £50,000 to £60,000 · Personal accident – loss of eyes/limbs/hearing in both ears – benefit increased from £20,000 to £50,000 · Temporary Total Disablement , payable after first 7 days – increased from £15 to £21 per week · Hospitalisation benefit, £50 per night, improved from up to 7 nights to 28 nights There is also far superior conditions to cover members for off duty incidents, but there is a strict criteria placed on this, for example are they being prosecuted as a result of the fact they are police officers? Further advice can be sought through our JBB Discipline Leader, Andrew Tempest-Mitchell.
In addition there is better life cover for retired members of the scheme with cover
For all retired officers up to the age of 65 being £50,000, whereas previously this cover was for retired officers up to the age of 60 and reduced for 60 to 64 years old by half.
For retired officers aged 65 to 69 the life cover has increased from £5,000 to £7,500.
Spouses of retired members will see increases to their benefits which have increased to £25,000 for all spouses under 65, and when aged 65 to 69 this has been increased from £1500 to £7500.
I repeat my comment above – THERE WILL BE NO INCREASE IN PREMIUMS FOR MEMBERS IN THE SCHEME, SERVING OR RETIRED. Negotiations are still ongoing with regards to a much improved support staff scheme, however, this is where there has to be a rise in premium as it is anticipated that this will almost mirror police officer Group Insurance Scheme with benefits increasing twofold within the scheme.
