Many of our members already know to their detriment, the Government has ordered that injury and disability pensions are all to be reviewed.

The following account has been received from a retired police officer.

I am one of the retired officers who will suffer as a result of the government's decision to retrospectively change the terms of Police Injury Pensions which are assessed according to degree if disability. The government has introduced a "Home Office Circular" effectively instructing police authorities to reduce existing injury pensions from whatever level any retired officer is assessed to the level appropriate to minimum level of disability once each retired officer reaches 65 years of age regardless of any actual medical assessment. In my own case this will result in a net decrease of 45% even though the documents issued to me 11 years ago guarantee my pension for life (subject to periodic medical assessment) and there are several thousand retired officers who will be affected to a greater or lesser degree. Those with the greatest degree of disability (and therefore the least ability to make up any shortfall) will be the worst affected.

Any of our members who are experiencing similar problems and wish to appeal should contact the West Yorkshire J.B.B. Secretary, Peter Scott. At the Federation Office, Wakefield.
